The 988 tag comes programmed, the same on every tag. Whoever holds a phone to it and taps the notification gets the Veterans Crisis Line and how to reach it. It does not call anyone for you. A person still decides to make the call.
Need to talk now? Dial 988, then press 1, or text 838255. Free, confidential, 24/7.
No subscription. Nothing personal.
- No subscription. You pay for the tag once. Nothing to renew, nothing to cancel.
- Nothing personal on it. It is the same on every 988 tag, so there is nothing about you to read.
- Works on iPhone and Android. Nothing for anyone to install.
- It does not dial. It brings up the crisis line and how to reach it. Nobody is told it was tapped.
South Pier Co. is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Department of Veterans Affairs or the Veterans Crisis Line. Want a tag with your own emergency contact instead? The U.S. and Star tags on the veterans page do that.
Straight answers.
Does tapping it call 988?
No. It brings up the Veterans Crisis Line and how to reach it, and nothing more. To reach the line you dial 988 and press 1 yourself, text 838255, or chat online.
Can I put my own information on it?
Not this one. The 988 ships already written and is the same on every tag. The U.S. and Star veterans tags carry your own emergency contact instead.
Does it work with iPhone and Android?
Yes. Recent iPhones read NFC tags from the lock screen with nothing to set up: hold the top edge of the phone to the tag. Most Android phones read them too, with NFC switched on in Settings; the reading spot is the middle of the back. A notification pops up, and tapping it opens what is on the tag.
Is there a subscription?
No. You pay for the tag once. No account, no app to keep, nothing to renew and nothing to cancel.
Is it a GPS tracker?
No. No GPS, no battery, nothing to charge. It does nothing until someone holds a phone to it.
